Saludos a todos! My name is Sarah and I am a graduate student in the LAIS Department. My emphasis is in History, supplemented by my interests for legal theory and religious practices in 15th and 16th century Latin America and Spain. What drove me to apply to the LAIS Graduate program stems from my training in Spanish Paleography as an undergraduate research assistant to Professor Juan Cobo in the History Department at UCSB. As a result, my research focuses on Indigenous Confraternities in Colonial Latin America, any potential foundations in Castile, Spain, as well as how and what terms constituted membership to such groups.
