Congratulations to Professor Jaime Alves (Black Studies) who received the Burdick Scholar Fellowship as a part of UC Santa Barbara’s Area Global Initiative for 2024-2025. He is now leading a year-long project entitled “Cityscapes of Enclosures, Im/mobilities, Abolition” which aims to re-imagine colonial landscapes of cityscapes, specifically looking at Colombia’s Santiago de Cali. In relation to his project, Professor Alves is also leading a seminar entitled “Urban Colonialscapes” that connects UCSB students with students at the Universidad de Valle in Colombia and the grassroots organization Casa Cultural El Chontaduro.
